BJP meets Guv, asks to rein-in school fees hike

Punjab BJP's delegation coming out of Raj Bhavan Punjab after submitting a memorandum to Governor Punjab demanding roll back of fee hike by Private Schools in Punjab.

Chandigarh, April 10, 2017: Punjab unit of the BJP today requested Punjab Governor, VP Singh Badnore to direct all private schools in the state to charge school fees according to the previous academic session till the issue is resolved.

A delegation comprising BJP state vice-presidents Sardar Harjit Singh Grewal and Iqbal singh Lalpura; and, state secretaries- Vineet Joshi and Vijay Puri, met the Governor and urged him to direct the Punjab Government to immediately constitute a Regulatory Body of the five Divisional Commissioners for regulating fees as per Section 3 (1) of Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act, 2016, and ask them to review fee hike within three months. The delegation demanded that till then the schools should be asked to charge fees according to the last academic session. After the decision is made the schools can realize the balance amount from parents, they said.

Interacting with media after meeting the Governor, Punjab BJP secretary Vineet Joshi said, “We have apprised the Governor of ongoing protests in the state. The parents are up against the business-minded approach of private school managements. We told the Governor that if the issue is not tackled soon, it will lead to a serious unrest in Punjab. Even a law and order problem could emerge”.

Joshi further said, “We have requested the Governor to ask Punjab Chief Minister to get the issue resolved in a time-bound manner, either by implementing every section/ provision of Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act, 2016, or by asking CBSE, PSEB, ICSE to take action and disaffiliate any school which is breaching the fee guidelines of the Board or by asking all Deputy Commissioners to mediate and get the issue resolved through talks”.

It is pertinent to note that parents are holding protests against the business-minded approach of private school managements all over Punjab including Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalalbad, Faridkot, Moga, Sangrur, Tarantaran, Batala, Bhunheri (District Patiala), Dhuri, Sunam, Subhanpur, Khamano, Bagha Purana, Guruharsahai, Sri Goindwal Sahib, Mohali, etc.
