Chandigarh, June 19, 2014:The Punjab Congress President, Partap Singh Bajwa, today expressed grave concern over the continued uncertainty about the fate of the 40 Indian workers, majority of them from this state, kidnapped by the insurgents from Mosul town in Iraq.
In a statement, he said the Union government had yesterday assured of all the possible steps to rescue them. However, what was the cause of worry was that no contact had been established with the workers or their abductors so far.
He urged the government to intensify efforts to ensure safety of their workers and make arrangements for their return after negotiating their freedom.
He said these workers from this region and the nurses from Kerala had gone there in search of greener pastures but would have never imagined that they would be trapped in such a situation.
He said the families of these workers were worried as they were in complete darkness after they lost contact with their near and dear ones.
Bajwa said the situation was turning dangerously alarming with each passing day and the government must act swiftly to bring them back safely. The priority should be given to establishing contact with them as the first step towards their rescue, he added.
