Ludhiana, October 28, 2014: Ashirwad (NICPA) is a unit of The North India Cerebral Palsy Association is registered rehabilitation center providing physical, educational, vocational, ADL training to children with developmental disabilities like cerebral palsy, Mental retardation (Down’s syndrome), Autism & multiple disabilities. Ashirwad organised a training workshop on “Sensory Integration for Cognitive Development” and in particular the use of a “Play Parachute”. Arvinder Singh Paul based in UK (Founder of Rainbow School & Special Educator) was the resource person. Arvinder taught in Newham, London in mainstream schools where children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) were taught alongside their “normal” peers. He is a director of a local charity, Red bridge Forum, that supports carers and young persons with special needs and/or disabilities in the London Borough of Redbridge, where he now lives.
Every year Arvinder, his wife Sandeep and his daughter Gurleen (a child with special needs) visit different schools and institutions in Northern India to train teachers and hold parent workshops to help bring a better understanding of how to teach and parent a special needs child. This also, gives them a better understanding of the current practices and resources available so far and is increasingly realizing that their vision is something that is much needed there.
Almost 70 delegates mostly parents attended the training. He explained every step in simple manner. He gave practical demo with a CP child Prabhkeerat. He described positioning, simple exercises for the children. He said, “A large part of child capacity for learning is the ability to integrate sensory information”. He told the parents to feel that their children should be made strong.
While describing the use of “Play Parachute”, he involved almost all the parents with their children. It is very interesting play method to teach the children numbers, colours, rhymes, turn taking & easy steps of exercises. He donated a “Play Parachute” to Ashirwad. It is very informative and interactive session.
