Ludhiana, March 28, 2016: Amidst an ambience of solemnity and grandeur, Annual Convocation of Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana was held today in Dumra Auditorium. Medical graduates of the MBBS Batch 2010 were awarded degrees and prizes. The chief guest, during the convocation, was Prof MC Misra, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

Dr GS Wander (Vice Principal and Chief Cardiologist, Hero DMC Heart Institute) extended warm welcome to the chief guest and introduced him to the audience.

The convocation began with the welcome address by President of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Sunil Kant Munjal. He congratulated the graduates and asked them to fulfill their duty with utmost dedication and within the limits of medical ethics. In his address, Sh Munjal said that Dayanand Medical College has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in medical education and providing quality health care for the people of the region.

Principal Dr Sandeep Puri read out the annual report of the college and highlighted the achievements and progress made by the esteemed faculty and various departments in the last one year. In his message to the outgoing students, Dr Puri said, ‘The knowledge and information in medical science has grown exponentially and it is far beyond human limits. Hence, try to learn as much as possible’. He said that the convocation that has been presented to the graduates today is not just a prize but a recognition of their dedication. He advised the fresh graduates that there are no shortcuts to attain success and urged them to attain good results through hard work and sincere dedication.
The chief guest- Prof MC Misra extended warmest congratulations to the graduating students. In his address, the chief guest said "You have chosen the most noble profession on earth which makes you highly responsible. He advised the fresh graduates, who would soon embark on a career in medicine, that they should work with dedication and sincerity to give a healing touch to the suffering and ailing. “There is a great responsibility on your shoulders as the role of doctors has assumed even more relevance today as they have to not only cure patients but also undertake research to mitigate sufferings of the ailing humanity,” he said. Appreciating the progress made by DMCH, the chief guest said that the institute, with its graduate, post-graduate and super-specialty programmes, is one of the most prestigious medical institutions of the region.
Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina administered the Hippocratic Oath to the fresh graduates before presenting them their degrees. The gold medal for the best graduate was presented to Dr Aakriti Gupta and the silver medal to Dr Kajal Taneja, who also got Best All- Rounder Award. The Best Intern Award Dr Parjit Kaur. The chief guest awarded 70 prizes and 12 medals to the students of various batches who had excelled in various subjects.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that Dayanand Medical College & Hospital is truly a proud symbol of the advances made in the area of medical science and health care. With excellent infrastructure and best quality health care facilities, DMCH has become the best hospital in the region, He also added that it is an honour today for these medical graduates to be associated with such prestigious institution. Nominee of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences-Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh, who is also Prof & Head of Transplant Surgery at DMCH was also present on the occasion.

Dr GS Wander proposed a vote of thanks to the dignitaries present on the occasion.

The other dignitaries who graced te occasion were Vice-Presidents of DMCH Managing Society Sh Gian Chand Dhawan and Sh Amrit Nagpal, Secretary of the Society Prem Kumar Gupta, Treasurer Satish Sanwalka, members of the Managing Society, Medical Supdts Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander and Assistant Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal.
