Punjab Government Cancels Recruitment Process Of 3 Categories Of Municipal Engineers

Chandigarh, May 17, 2016: The Punjab government has cancelled the recruitment process of three categories of Assistant Corporation Engineer, Assistant Municipal Engineer and Sub Divisional Engineers of Local Government Department out of the 670 vacancies of the Local Government Department being conducted by the Punjab University Chandigarh.
According to an official spokesperson of the Government, the decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting presided over by the Punjab Chief Minister, after numerous irregularities were spotted out in the above selection process
It may be recalled that the written test for these vacancies was conducted by Punjab University Chandigarh on November 15, 2015. On the basis of the complaints received, a Vigilance enquiry was marked on February 4, 2016. A case has been registered under various sections of IPC at Police Station (Vigilance Bureau) Mohali and the case is under investigation.
The spokesman also said that the applications received by the Punjab University in this regard would be transferred to some other reputed organisation like Thapar University Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh University Bathinda, Baba Farid University Faridkot, IIT Rupagar , IIT Roorkie or any other University. He further said that all the written tests for recruitments to be conducted by the Punjab University would also be transferred to some other Institutions.
Meanwhile, taking steps further, the state government has constituted a high level committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary Vigilance while the Secretary Personnel, Administrative Secretary of the Departments concerned and a representative of Vigilance Bureau not less than IG Level would be the members. The Committee would look into the genuine complaints, if received, in the ongoing selection process being conducted by the Punjab University on the basis of the written tests where the selection process was at the final stage. Appropriate action would be taken by the Committee in case of any complaint found valid.
