Ludhiana, July 5, 2016: Aided school employees, who have been demanding a merger for the past four years with the education department, will hold a rally on July 8 at Bathinda.
In a meeting of state executive body of the Punjab Aided School Teachers’ Union held here on Tuesday, the employees declared that they will hold a state-level rally at Bathinda on July 8. The aided school employees had formerly held a meeting at Ludhiana on July 3, in which employees had decided to hold a protest against the government if the CM did not give them time to meet.
District president Gurmit Singh Madnipur and General secretary Karamjit Singh Rano said the government had been ignoring their demand for a merger for the past many years.
Another leader, Davinder Rehan said while they have had four meetings with the government regarding a merger, and during the last meeting, on the insistence of the government, the union had provided it a copy of Rajasthan’s merger policy.
Further, Rudher Sharma, another union leader, said a file regarding the merger was also prepared but so far no action had been taken on the issue. He said despite the announcement of a protest against the government the chief minister did not give them time for a meeting. Sharma said while the government was already paying 95 per cent salaries and pensions to these employees, even if they are shifted to schools, they won’t weigh heavy of the education department financially, rather it would help in the filling of empty posts at schools.
