Ferozepur, January 26, 2013:  The Makhu police have booked seven persons for allegedly manhandling the Forest Department staff that went to plant trees on the piece of land which was taken back from illegal custody of the land mafia in Gatti Harike area during the last week.

As per the sources, while the staff of forest department was erecting pillars along the boundary, some persons arrived there and manhandled with the staff and threatened with dire consequences and uprooted the pillars and tried to reoccupy the land.

On the complaint of forest department, seven persons have been booked including one Balbir Singh. In fact, due to inadequate security with the department, there are number of such incidents when forest staff had come under attack from the land mafia.

DFO has, however, taken up the matter with the senior officers for making adequate security arrangements for the safety of the staff and valuable forest land in the area.
