$4 mn for flood-hit northern Slovakia

Bratislava, July 29 (IANS) Slovak government approved Monday a total of 3.06 million euros (over $4 million) in financial assistance for flood-hit Vratna Valley area in Northern Slovakia.

A total of 2.42 million dollars will be allocated to Zilina regional government and 1.69 million dollars to the village of Terchova, which was struck by torrential rain Monday last week, Xinhua reported.

"I'm not ruling out the possibility that the government will approve further resources for clearing up the damage in the area," said Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kazimir after the extraordinary session during governmental holiday.

On July 21, the village of Terchova, including the popular tourist destination of Vratna Valley, was hit by torrential rain. This resulted in landslides that destroyed a number of roads in the area.

Vratna Valley is currently inaccessible both to residents and visitors.
