A 24 member delegation of farmers from Germany paid a visit to PAU

Ludhiana, April 21, 2016: A 24 member delegation of farmers from Germany paid a visit to Punjab Agricultural University to get familiar with the agricultural scenario of the state. The delegates, pursuing agricultural specialization with Albrecht Thaer School in the Celle district of the Lower Saxony state of Gemany, were impressed with the rigrous research activities of the university. In his remarks, Dr Henning von der Lancken, an accompanying senior faculty member of the school expressed his desire for MoUs’ between Germany and PAU for exchange of agricultural and farming expertise. Another faculty member, Ms. Kristen Hohls appreciated PAU’s outreach to the state farmers through strong Extension activities. She further applauded the university’s concern and efforts towards combating climate change.
Dr. P.K. Gumber, Additional Director, Research, welcomed the delegates and briefed them about the research, extension and teaching activities of the university. Later, the Heads of various Departments took up the queries of the participants. The delegates were also taken to the Crop Museum where they showed a keen interest in the various varieties of wheat developed by PAU and also the cropping pattern in the state. The visit to the Farm Power Machinery department evoked a keen interest in the different agricultural implements, especially the laser land leveler. The delegates were pleased to see the efficient working of the same in the PAU experimental field area.
