1 Sikh protestor passes away during protest near main bridge at Harike Headworks

Ferozepur, October 18, 2015: It remained peaceful throughout the day in Ferozepur district and any untoward incident was not reported. Though it was Sunday, the shopkeepers kept their shops open throughout the day following the bandh. Last day the situation was extremely tense and hundreds of youth were seen brandishing naked swords, unleashing a reign of terror among the innocent residents. However, today it was like a festival day in Ferozepur and most of the bazaars remained packed as normal.
Meanwhile, few miscreants reportedly damaged the car of Satpal Singh Talwandi, SGPC member from Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur at Moga. Two days ago, few agitated youth had manhandled Darshan Singh Sherkhan at Village Naju Shah Mishri following few unidentified miscreants had torn off few pages of Shri Guru Granth Sabhi adorned in the village Gurdwara. The police have booked 50-60 unidentified persons in this case under section 307 IPC. Though, the videos of the incident have gone viral, the police have not made any arrest.  Today the Sikh organizations had organized an “Akhand Path” at village Sher Khan for peace and harmony in the area.
The protestors blocked the main bridge at Harike Headworks for the fourth consecutive day due to which hundreds of passenger had to suffer a lot. Meanwhile a veteran Sikh protestor identified as Puran Singh (75) son of Channan Singh, a resident of Solan Thandiyan, Khemkaran today passed away during the protest. Few protestors during the blockade at Harike Headwork’s were also seen waving the “Khalistan” flag.     
Ferozepur Railway Division, which has already suffered a huge financial loss due to seven day long farmer’s agitation few days ago, was once again targeted by the Sikh protestors. Yesterday the protestors had stopped a DMU at Butewala, near Mallanwala in Ferozepur-Jalandhar section and one passenger train was stopped at Village Bhaktawala in Amritsar-Khemkaran section due to which 19 passenger trains were cancelled last day. Though, the Ferozepur-Jalandhar section was restored today, the protest was continued at village Bhaktawala (in Amritsar-Khemkaran section) due to which eight trains (all passenger) were cancelled.
