Inter-Zonal Youth Festival of inaugurated at Guru Nanak Dev University

Amritsar, October 27,2014 : A 4-day Inter-Zonal Youth Festival of the Guru Nanak Dev University was inaugurated here today in the Dashmesh Auditorium. As many as 500 students-artists are participating in 28 items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts. This festival would be concluded on October 30.
A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor, formally inaugurated this festival by lighting the candles. Sawrajbir Singh IPS, IG, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was the guest of honour. Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director, Youth Welfare welcomed the chief guest and others. She gave detail of the achievements of Youth Welfare Department.
Brar encouraged the students to work hard with dedication for success in life. He said that students should respect their parents, teachers and elders. He said that credit of cultural achievements of the University goes to hard work and dedication of students, teachers, principals and Youth Welfare Department. He said that bias free judgment needed to be encouraged for the all round achievements.
Sawrajbir Singh also presented his views on this occasion. Jagjit Kaur also honoured Chief Guest and guest of honour with mementos. Today, the festival was started with the item of Bhangra followed by Group Song Indian, Costume Exhibition, Mime, Mimicry, Group Shabad/Bhajan, Vaar Singing, Kavishri and Fine Arts. On October 28 the competitions of One Act Play, Classical Dance, Folk Instruments, Folk Song, Geet/Gazal, Classical Inst. (Percussion), Quiz Preliminary, Rangoli and Fulkari will be organized.
On October 29, the competitions of One Act Play, Skit, Group Dance, Classical Inst. (Non-Percussion), Classical Vocal, Group Song (Western), Elocution, Poetical Symposium and Debate will be organised.
On the last day (October 30), the competitions of Gidha and Western Vocal Solo followed by prize distribution function will be organised. In the prize distribution function Higher Education Minister, Surjit Singh Rakhra will be the chief guest.
