Workshop on Remote Sensing and GIS Held at Lyallpur Khalsa College

The Post Graduate Department of Geography at Lyallpur Khalsa College organised a one-day workshop on the Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and GIS to enhance students’ technical and practical understanding of modern geospatial technologies. The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the basics of remote sensing, mapping techniques, and the role of Geographic Information Systems in real-world applications.

Jalandhar, March 30, 2026: The Post Graduate Department of Geography at Lyallpur Khalsa College organised a one-day workshop on the Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and GIS to enhance students’ technical and practical understanding of modern geospatial technologies. The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the basics of remote sensing, mapping techniques, and the role of Geographic Information Systems in real-world applications.

The resource person, Prof. Ripudaman Singh from the Banaras Hindu University, was welcomed by Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu and Head of the Department Dr. Pooja Rana with a bouquet of flowers. In her inaugural address, the Principal highlighted that such academic initiatives strengthen both theoretical and practical knowledge of students and play a key role in skill enhancement, making them more employable in the future.

During the session, Prof. Ripudaman Singh shared his expertise in remote sensing technology and GIS, explaining its diverse applications in environmental monitoring, transport and infrastructure planning, urban development, and agriculture. Participants were also provided hands-on training using specialised software and instruments, giving them valuable practical exposure.

Dr. Pooja Rana informed that six colleges participated in the workshop and more than 132 students attended with great enthusiasm. She stressed the importance of such programmes in keeping students updated with emerging techniques in the discipline. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the Principal and faculty for successfully organising the workshop. Prof. Kamalpreet Kaur, Prof. Kartik, and Prof. Ishu were also present throughout the session.
