Buy local on Diwali; traditional potters, artisans hard-working people: Raghav Chadha
BJP Parliamentarian Raghav Chadha has urged people to support local markets and traditional artisans this Diwali, drawing attention to the dedication and craftsmanship of a family of potters he met while shopping for the festival.
New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) BJP Parliamentarian Raghav Chadha has urged people to support local markets and traditional artisans this Diwali, drawing attention to the dedication and craftsmanship of a family of potters he met while shopping for the festival.
In a social media post, Chadha wrote, “Aapki choti si khareedari, kisi ki poori Diwali”.
During a visit to a local marketplace, a young man invited Chadha to his home. There, the entire family was busy making earthen pots, traditional diyas and decorative items.
Chadha interacted with the artisans, observed the skill required to shape the diyas—a craft handed down through generations—and learned about the labour-intensive process involved in their production.
He emphasised that handmade products represent far more than just the raw material used. Acknowledging the dedication and effort poured into every piece, Chadha assured the artisans that he would raise their concerns and work to secure better prices, higher profits and fair remuneration for their hard work.
Speaking to the artisans, he said: “I will raise your voice and make efforts to promote your work so that you get better compensation for the hard work you put in with your own hands.”
Chadha also appealed to citizens to prioritise local purchases this festive season. He pointed out that a few diyas or decorative lights may appear to be a small purchase for a consumer, yet they can make a meaningful difference to the livelihood and happiness of a small shopkeeper or artisan family.
Urging people to make this Diwali more inclusive, Chadha said: “This Diwali, buy a little more from your local markets. Behind every small shop is a family hoping for a better festive season. What may be a small purchase for us can bring happiness to an entire household. Buy local this Diwali, because celebrations are complete only when happiness reaches every home.”
He encouraged citizens to support local artisans, small businesses and traditional craftsmanship so that the joy and prosperity of Diwali reach every household.
The appeal aligns with the broader call to strengthen local economies and sustain age-old skills during the festival of lights.
