Workshop on Improving Weld Quality and Productivity

Ludhiana, September 26, 2016: Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings organised a workshop on Improving Weld Quality and Productivity at CICU Complex, Focal Point, Ludhiana.
Sh.Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary CICU welcomed the participant and said that the welding is the backbone of all type of the industries. Indian Industry has a challenging time ahead which can grow & maintain the speed with new & innovative techniques only. It is necessary to upgrade the welding skills and machines by our MSMEs to cope up with the changing times by adopting latest welding techniques as well as world class machines. This workshop will upgrade the skills with the use of the latest Welding Techniques and use of World Class Welding Equipments so that our Industry should be benefited for Production & Quality Enhancement, Cost Saving & Pollution Control etc.
More than 50 participants including of Unit Heads, Production, Quality, Maintenance and weldshop Personals attended this workshop. The interactive and thought provoking sessions was conducted by Dr. Amandeep Singh Shahi, Ph.D. (IIT Delhi) Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology, Longowal (SLIET- Deemd University) , who is having more than 20 years experience of Teaching & Research in the area of welding materials, metallurgy and actively involved in welding research. He explained in details the fundamentals of welding including metallurgy of welded joints, Dos and don’ts prior to, during and after welding, Concept of Preheating, Root Pass, Inter-Pass Temperature, Multi-Pass Welding, Post Weld Heat Treatment etc, Safe welding practices, without losing productivity, Weld-ability issues of different materials used in different welded fabrications, Familiarizations with different types of weld joints & joint designs, Weld Defects, their Causes and Remedies, Residual stresses/distortion in welding and its causes, prevention, control and mechanical evaluation of welded joints.
