Workshop on Design Skills Enhancement being organised by the Department of Design of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar on Friday.
Jalandhar, December 19, 2014: The Department of Design of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar has organised a Workshop on Design Skills Enhancement (Based on Traditional Crafts of Punjab) from December 19 to 23 during which ace craftsmen from the State of Punjab would be conducting the Workshop.
The thrust of the Workshop is to infuse a new spirit into the dying crafts of the State through new and innovative techniques. The students would learn the crafts and work on creating new designs for traditional crafts. On the first day of the Workshop, the students worked on the traditional technique of inlay work.
The whole procedure from the inception of the idea to the finished products was explained by Shammi Lal from Hoshiarpur, a State Awardee and a veteran craftsman with more than 30 years of experience. On 20 December, 2014, the students would be working on the craft of Phulkari and Nala Making and on 22 December, 2014 on Punjabi Jutti. On the concluding day of the Workshop, the theme would be weaving with Bamboo and Cane.
Dr. Sucharita, Principal of the College stated that it is of prime importance that we pay attention to the beautiful crafts of our State which are our legacy. We have to make a collaborative effort to renew and revive them and stop them from fading into oblivion due to the introduction of mass produced, commercialized goods.
