Webinar on global pandemics through lens of social sciences

Jalandhar: The Department of Social Sciences of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organised a webinar on Global Pandemics through the lens of Social Sciences. On this occasion, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal( Retd.Professor and Former Head Dept. of History, GNDU), Dr. Amandeep Kaur (Professor and Head Dept. of History, GNDU), Dr. Kuldip Singh (Head Dept.Political Science, GNDU) and Dr. Shivani Sharma (Chairperson and Associate Professor, Dept. Of Philosophy, Punjab University, Chandigarh) joined the session as panellists.
Principal Dr. Sucharita Sharma expressed her pleasure to have them amongst them and put forth that their views of COVID-19 and how to deal with this crisis in positive manner from the point of view of Social scientists will definitely ease the situation and give our viewers and students another angle to perceive this situation.
Dr. Amandeep Kaur shared with the viewers that pandemic situations have occurred in the past as well if we go back to history and analyse it. He talked of 1980s when Spanish flu had wiped off many of the people from the planet. He added from the past we should learn from our mistakes and can even consider the possible strategies to deal with the crisis in present.
Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal put forth COVID-19 has affected people mostly in the cities and has hit the senior citizens of our country. He also shared that such kinds of pandemic only occurs when human beings play with nature and think that they have won over nature which is definitely an illusion as we can see in the present situation.
Dr. Kuldip Singh shared that COVID- 19 will definitely create a change in our upcoming lifestyles from our basic living to our work life or travelling etc. He added as the government had put forth some rules and regulations post Lockdown, we need to adhere to them in order to keep ourselves safe.
Dr. Shivani Sharma added to the above conversation that this is the time when we can find ourselves and recognize our true potentials.
