Vet Varsity holds brainstorming session on “health strategies for enhancing productivity of dairy animals”

Ludhiana, June 5, 2023: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana holds brainstorming session to carve out health strategies for enhancing productivity of dairy animals. XXI Annual Convocation cum Scientific Convention of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences is going to held on July 1-2, 2023 at GADVASU under the theme ‘Strategies for Enhancing Productivity of Dairy Animals’ covering six areas like Breeding, Health, Reproduction, Management, Nutrition and Extension. So, this pre-session was organized on the subject of Livestock Health. 

Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO, Agrinnovate India Limited, a GOI enterprise and Former Animal Husbandry Commissioner of India; Dr BhojRaj Singh, Head, Division of Epidemiology, IVRI, Izatnagar; Dr. SNS Randhawa, Former Director of Research, GADVASU; Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Principal Scientist, Biochemistry, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Dr Ashok Kumar, Scientist, Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar were the experts. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of the university participated in the session along with officers, Heads of different departments, faculty members and students. 

Dr. SS Randhawa, Director of Clinics initiated the discussion and cited different health issues related to livestock, challenges faced and possible solutions. Experts recognised inadequate disease reporting and poor control measures as the major issues related to livestock health. Dr Gupta raised the issue of stray cattle and regulations for sale of bull semen within the country whereas other experts brought to attention the issues of antimicrobial resistance and poor extension services in the Animal Husbandry sector. Dr. Inderjeet Singh suggested that the government should establish and strengthen cattle ponds for stray cows. He said that the interactions among the leading researchers and policy makers will definitely help in evolving innovative practices and methodologies in veterinary practice, research and education to enhance the productivity of dairy animals. Moreover, the brainstorming session was a great opportunity for the faculty members and students to interact with experts across the country. Dr. Randhir Singh thanked the guests, especially the vice chancellor, for holding this type of session at the campus.
