Ludhiana, December 29, 2015: Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU),Ludhiana has clarified that few years back, it was decided that PAU and GADVASU would jointly spare around two acres of land near Gate No.8 to provide parking for PAU Kisan Melas and GADVASU Pashupalan Melas.
He was replying to a question of setting-up of helipad at PAU at a press conference in the University Campus today.
Dr Dhillon further stated that this area can also be used for helipad.
He added that the decision has been taken keeping in view the parking convenience and maintenance of sports ground.
It may be recalled here that on December 28, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh had criticised the state government decision to construct a permanent helipad on the research land in the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
“This reflects extreme level of insensitivity of the government towards agricultural research in the state, when it is required the most”, he had remarked in a statement issued in Chandigarh on Monday.
Capt Amarinder had said, “in case the Akali government goes ahead with the decision, he will scrap it after Congress forms the government in 2017 and will return the land to the PAU for the research.”
The former Chief Minister had said, “There was no point in constructing a permanent helipad in the PAU and that too, on a land meant for research, when helicopters have already been landing in the PAU ground. This is simply wastage of scarce resources the state has, besides taking away precious research land from the PAU.”
Referring to frequent transfer of PAU land for other purposes, the PCC president had wondered over the wisdom of the government asking, “what is the point in having an agricultural university when you are taking away the research land from it for totally different purposes?”
