Chandigarh, November 19, 2014: Union Government has already released Rs 149.67 crore to the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC), Punjab as its share for Scheme of Post Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Castes said Vijay Sampla Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the scheduled caste students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education for medical, engineering, three year degree courses, post graduation, research courses, diploma, certificate course, agriculture study, veterinary, etc. It is in the shape of maintenance allowance and non-refundable compulsory fees.
Scholarships will be paid to the students whose parents or guardians' income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2,50,000 per annum.
