TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT SHOULD ENSURE REGULAR CHECKING OF VEHICLES TO HELP REDUCE AIR & SOUND POLLUTION: LUDHIANA DC
Ludhiana, November 6, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal today directed the transport department officials to carry out regular checking of vehicles so that air and sound pollution in the district can be checked. He also directed them to challan maximum number of violators and a detailed report regarding the same should be submitted on time. He issued these directions during a review meeting of Mission Tandrust Punjab, at his office, here today. During the meeting, Mr Agrawal directed the Health Department officials to carry out checks and record samples of eatables being sold by sweetmeat shop owners, restaurants, and all other such places selling eatables so that residents get only good quality products. He also asked them to take strict action against all the violators. He directed the officials from Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to challan the industries that pollute our environment and initiate strict legal proceedings against them. The Public Works Department (PWD) officials were directed to organise maximum number of awareness camps about the welfare schemes of the government. He also directed the officials to ensure maximum registration of construction labour. The Deputy Commissioner also urged the city residents to celebrate the festival of lights as green Diwali so that we all can contribute in saving our environment. He said that our environment gets polluted with the smoke emitted from firecrackers, besides the loud sound affects old aged persons, birds, dogs etc. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress of Education Department, Forest Department, Local Bodies, Sports etc and directed that all departments should submit their detailed progress reports on time.
