Dr Andrei V Alexandrov delivered the oration in front of a packed audience on the topic of ‘Current concepts in Management of Stroke’

A stroke occurs when a vessel in the brain ruptures or is blocked by a blood clot. Stroke medical treatments work to either open the blockage or treat the rupture. Medical advances have greatly improved survival rates from stroke treatments during the last decade. But the chances of survival are even better if the stroke is identified and treated immediately. The goal for the acute management of patients with stroke is to stabilise the patient and to complete initial evaluation and assessment, including imaging and laboratory studies, within 60 minutes of patient arrival. Effective stroke therapy can be improved through real-time monitoring of the neurological and cardiovascular responses to treatment.

Dr Andrei V Alexandrov, further informed that that 80 percent of all strokes are preventable. It starts with managing key risk factors, including high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, atrial fibrillation and physical inactivity. He also discussed about newer modalities in the form of mobile CT Scan within the ambulance and ultrasonic therapy for treatment of stroke.

Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary of DMCH Management Society along with Dr  Swaran Khurana & Dr Dheeraj Khurana conferred Dr Andrei V Alexandrov with the oration award.
