SUPVA short film ‘Jagat Ka Des’ to screen at Dhaka film fest

A short film produced by the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Jagat Ka Des, has earned an international platform with its selection for the 17th International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) in Dhaka.

Rohtak, September 12, 2026: A short film produced by the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Jagat Ka Des, has earned an international platform with its selection for the 17th International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) in Dhaka.

The 14-minute-36-second film has been selected from among 1,269 entries from 92 countries and will be screened at the festival, beginning September 21 in Dhaka.

Mahesh TP, FC of the Faculty of Film and Television said the film, made in Bhojpuri and Hindi, has been written and directed by Shivam Pandey, a 2019-batch acting graduate, who has also played the lead role. Chetna, Sandeep, Arun and Sanya feature in key roles.

Harshit Dhal handled cinematography, Rahul Katyal editing, while Rohit Chauhan was responsible for location, mixing and design.

The film explores migration, memory, identity, love, displacement and an emotional connection with one’s roots. Its protagonist, Jagat, leaves his village in search of a better life but carries his memories, relationships and attachment to his homeland with him.

Jagat Ka Des was also screened at the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, held in Srinagar from September 7 to 10.

SUPVA Vice-Chancellor Dr Amit Arya said students taking charge of various aspects of filmmaking, including acting, music, costume designing and direction, reflected their creative potential. He termed the film’s selection for an international festival a proud moment for the university.
