Sporting Spirit Soars as DAV University’s 10th Annual Athletic Meet Begins
The Two-Day 10th Annual Athletic Meet of DAV University commenced with great enthusiasm and sporting fervour at the university campus, bringing together students from various departments to compete in a wide range of track and field events.
Jalandhar, April 15, 2026: The Two-Day 10th Annual Athletic Meet of DAV University commenced with great enthusiasm and sporting fervour at the university campus, bringing together students from various departments to compete in a wide range of track and field events.
The meet was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Arora, Registrar, who also graced the occasion. The inaugural ceremony featured a ceremonial march past, oath-taking, and the lighting of the torch, symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.
Declaring the meet open, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar said, “Sports play a vital role in shaping character, discipline, and leadership among students. This athletic meet is not just a competition but a platform to nurture resilience and teamwork. In today’s fast-paced world, physical fitness is as important as academic excellence, and universities must create opportunities that encourage students to excel in both. I am proud to see such enthusiastic participation, which reflects the vibrant sports culture at DAV University.”
Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Arora, Registrar, highlighted the importance of co-curricular engagement, stating, “Such events foster holistic development and encourage students to excel beyond academics. Participation with integrity and true sportsmanship is what truly matters. These platforms not only enhance physical endurance but also instill values of discipline, time management, and mutual respect among students, which are essential for their overall personality development.”
Earlier, Dr. Yeshbir Singh, Director, Sports and Physical Education, welcomed the gathering and presented the annual sports report. He noted, “The Athletic Meet reflects our continued commitment to promote fitness and excellence. The enthusiastic participation this year is truly encouraging.”
The day witnessed a packed schedule of events, including the 5000m and 800m races, 100m heats, relay races, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, high jump, triple jump, and tug of war competitions, with students displaying remarkable energy and competitive spirit.
The event, organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, will continue on April 16, with finals and the closing ceremony scheduled for the concluding day.
