Drugs Take Toll on Youth, Families and Future: Rohtak SP

Rohtak, September 16, 2026: Stressing that awareness must go hand in hand with strict action against drug abuse, the Centre for Medical Biotechnology (CMBT) at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) organised an awareness programme on prevention of substance abuse.
Rohtak SP Gaurav Rajpurohit, IPS, who was the chief speaker, warned those involved in the drug trade to quit the illegal activity or face stringent legal action. He said drug addiction not only damages physical and mental health but also affects students’ education, finances and family life, and may push young people towards crime.
The SP urged students to stay away from drugs, make responsible choices and spread awareness about their harmful effects. He said students, families, educational institutions and the police must work together to build a drug-free society.
MDU Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal said the growing problem of drug abuse among youth needed to be addressed urgently. Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences Prof. Meenakshi Vashisht called upon students to unite against drug abuse.
CMBT Director Dr Hari Mohan stressed the need for sustained awareness and collective efforts. Students conveyed anti-drug messages through posters and slogans, followed by an awareness rally.
Prof. Amita Suneja Dang proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Pooja Suneja, Dr Mehak Dangi, Dr Rashmi Bhardwaj and Dr Anil Kumar, besides teachers, police officials, research scholars and students, attended the programme.
