Chandigarh, October 12, 2023: The Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a special lecture on “Identification of Fire Arms and Problems related to Range of Fire Arms, Type of Weapon used and Injuries” by Dr. L S Rana, Former Deputy Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab.

Prof. Anil Monga welcomed the speaker and said that police these days is facing criticism for poor investigation resulting in low conviction rate. He further, highlighted the need for using forensic science in police investigation for better results and more and more policemen should be trained in scientific investigation.

Dr. L S Rana, Former Deputy Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab, initiated his talk by explaining various types of fire arms used by the offenders while committing the crime. He highlighted that there is a need to examine the crime scene carefully by the police and look for the evidences such as live cartage’s, used cartages, shots etc. He further elaborated that distance and position of the fire arm used matters and should be studied by the investigator properly for drawing right conclusions. He discussed at length the mechanism of firing and explained the content of a cartage and how it causes the damage. The lecture was followed by questions by the students and the speaker answered these queries the raised by the participates to their satisfaction. The lecture was attended by the Faculty, Research Scholars and students of Centre for Police Administration.
