Special lecture on ‘Gender Sensitisation in Contemporary Times’
University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University in collaboration with PU’s Internal Complaints Committee today organised a special lecture on ‘Gender Sensitisation in Contemporary Times’. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajesh Gill, an eminent social scientist and currently an advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Chandigarh, August 19, 2025: University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University in collaboration with PU’s Internal Complaints Committee today organised a special lecture on ‘Gender Sensitisation in Contemporary Times’. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajesh Gill, an eminent social scientist and currently an advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
In her enriching and inspiring lecture, Prof. Gill spoke on the gap between social norms, legal provisions and various judgements. She gave a strong message to the young students to come forward and work collaboratively toward insensitivities. This can bring desired behavioral change. She specifically mentioned that to fight the system, we have to fight the gender stereotypes.
Prof. Madhurima Verma, Presiding Officer of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Dean of Faculty of Arts, Panjab University shared that ICC is a key mechanism in the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment at workplace. She informed about procedure to approach ICC in case of need.
Lecture was attended by a number of senior faculty members, research scholars and students of the University. The lecture witnessed an overwhelming response and both boys and girls asked lot of questions from the speakers.
Prof Shruti Bedi, Director UILS appreciated the efforts of ICC and indicated that these programs are essential to promote safe and inclusive environment for all individuals.
Prof. Navneet Arora, Coordinator of the program remarked that such awareness programs would be regular feature of the department as these help in making the work environment comfortable, safe and dignified for everyone.
