The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised special lectures on “Career Prospects in LIS: Successful Stories” and  “LIS Research & Education- Ranganathan’s Legacy” by Prof. K. P.Singh.

Chandigarh May 2, 2025: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised special lectures on “Career Prospects in LIS: Successful Stories” and  “LIS Research & Education- Ranganathan’s Legacy” by Prof. K. P.Singh. 

Prof. K. P. Singh is currently serving as the Director of Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi and Professor at Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, New Delhi. Earlier, the Chairperson of the Department, Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, welcomed the resource person and participants. All the Faculty members, research scholars and the students of Bachelors of Library and Information Science and Masters of Library and Information Science participated in the event.  

In the first lecture, Prof. K. P. Singh discussed about the current scenario of the field and spread more clarity about the career prospects among the students and the research scholars. He told about the best ways that lead one to reach their goals by active and positive attitude towards the situation that an aspirant may face during examinations as well as in the interviews. Prof. Singh said “Presenting ourselves is a key”.

In the second lecture, the discussion begun with the support that library associations could offer an aspirant to attain a position. Also, the lecture was turned into question-answer session as the active participation was desired by the Prof. Singh. Several research scholars and students enquired about their doubts in the session, which was quite fruitful for all those who attended the session. 

The event concluded with key suggestions of Prof. K. Singh to grab a good position in the field. He also recommended to become more updated about the trends and new technologies in the field that could take us to the growing future.
