Special extension lecture on the topic `Legal Aid Awareness: From Ignorance to Empowerment' 

Ludhiana, November 26, 2021:  The Legal Aid Clinic  in collaboration with  IQAC Cell of University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organized a special Extension lecture  on the topic 'Legal  Aid Awareness: From Ignorance to Empowerment' on the occasion of Constitution Day on  November 26, 2021. 
The keynote speaker of the event was Shri Prabjot Singh Kaleka, CJM cum Secretary,  District Legal Services Authority ,  Ludhiana who enlightened the students about the significance of Legal aid services in today's era .
Dr. Aditi Sharma, Associate Professor, Legal Aid Coordinator, UIL, PURC  extended her warm welcome to the esteemed guest.
The session emphasised on the importance of Legal Services which are provided free of cost to the people who cannot afford litigation cost. 
The speaker talked about the measures taken by the courts to provide the best possible solution to the people within a limited time frame. 
The eminent speaker laid stress on the fact that mediation and Lok Adalats in the present era have helped avoid a lot of Litigation expenses and provided expeditious disposal of cases. He focused on the provisions of Article 39 A and the categories of people who can claim legal assistance and the various compensation schemes. 
He also advised the law students to encourage people in the need of  legal help to take assistance of legal aid services where a panel of lawyers has been specially set up to assist the people in need. 
Shri Kaleka highlighted the role of lawyers and judges in creating a better system which provides an alternate solution to the problems of people without going into colossal Litigation procedures. 
Endeavors are being made to increase awareness regarding Legal Aid Services and Permanent Lok Adalats and the speaker requested the students to guide people about the alternative routes available. 
The eminent speaker concluded the session on a positive note highlighting the benefits of mediation and the impact that its implementation on a large scale can have. 
The lecture  was followed by a question round as well where the students asked their queries and got some informative insights. 
The session was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Pooja Sikka. 
The event was convened by Dr. Aditi Sharma, Legal Aid Coordinator and Dr. Pooja Sikka, IQAC Coordinator  under the guidance of Prof. Arti Puri, Director , PURC and it proved to be a fruitful endeavor by the institute and students got the opportunity to learn.
