Greater Noida, August 20, 2025: The Department of Radiology at the School of Medical Sciences and Research, Sharda University, in collaboration with the Society of Fetal Medicine, organized a seminar on Wednesday focused on the importance of prenatal care for pregnant women and their unborn children.
During the event, medical experts discussed how genetic disorders in fetuses can be detected and managed during pregnancy through ultrasound, proper testing, and timely precautions.
Dr. Krishan Gopal, Vice President of the Society of Fetal Medicine, emphasized that fetal medicine plays a vital role in protecting unborn babies from various risks. Ultrasound provides critical insights into fetal health, enabling timely medical intervention. He stated that pregnant women must exercise special caution, including regular check-ups for blood pressure and overall maternal and child health. In high-risk pregnancies, additional attention is required to monitor and manage complications at an early stage. Dr. Gopal also highlighted the growing trend of fetal medicine in India, underlining that thousands of maternal and fetal deaths still occur annually in the country.
Dr. Ram Murti, Medical Superintendent of Sharda Hospital, expressed concern over India’s high maternal and perinatal mortality rates. He pointed out that these mortality indicators are reflective of a country’s or state's development. Fetal medicine, as a specialized field, can identify complications in the fetus as early as 12 weeks into pregnancy. With early diagnosis, treatment and informed counseling can be provided to manage potential risks. He further added that pregnant women, especially from rural areas, often lack awareness about pregnancy-related health concerns. Therefore, there is a pressing need to reach out to these communities, raise awareness, and educate them about prenatal issues and available treatments.
During the seminar several renowned doctors including Dr. Nirupama Gupta, Dr. Shabnam Grover, Dr. Vishal Gupta, Dr. Amit Gupta, Dr. Saurav Bhagat, Dr. Kinjal, Dr. Rupanshi Jain, Dr. Ajay Sahni, Dr. Saksham Sharma, Dr. Sandeep, and Dr. Shubham Patel were present there.
