Dharamshala, July 26, 2017: Officials from the Tibetan Government-in-Exile and members of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Exiled Tibetans and supporters today gathered in huge numbers at Dharamshala, where a prayer service was held for the Tibetan teen Tenzin Choeying who died on July 22 following his self immolation on July 14.
Speaking highly of the deceased self-immolator for his dedication towards Tibetan issue and preservation of Tibetan culture and language, Tibetan Youth Congress Vice President Tamding Hrichoe urged the Chinese government to heed the calls of Tibetan self-immolators, and said, “I would also urge the United Nations and remind them that they are the global organization formed to address any abuse of human rights and freedom.”
Tibetan parliament Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel said, “All Tibetans have a collective responsibility to fulfil the late teenager’s wishes of preserving the Tibetan language, and culture which is the main source of strength in our struggle.”
Choeying’s father Ngawang Khedup said that his only regret was not able to speak to him before his fiery act in the campus of Central University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath on July 14. Ngawang said, “I urge the youth to pursue more powerful means such as education to contribute substantially to our cause.”
“We must have the determination to achieve our goals: freedom for six million Tibetans and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Potala palace and place the Tibetan national flag back on the world map,” he said
Following the service, the body was taken in full procession to the McLeod Ganj crematorium, in upper Dharamshala.

On the other side at Leh in Ladakh, the Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama on Tuesday gave a profound advice to Tibetans in exile to speak up for rights and freedom of Tibetans in Tibet while embracing education as the vehicle for change.
The Central Tibetan Association CTA spokesperson quoted Dalai Lama that the Tibetan Spiritual leader said yesterday at SOS TCV School in Choglamsar, Leh, “In the face of such suffering it’s our responsibility to speak up for the rights and freedom of the 6 million Tibetans at home in Tibet, with the knowledge that we will only achieve change through education and awareness, not by resorting to force.”
Choeying passed away on July 22 around 4:50 p.m. (IST) at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi after succumbing to his burn injuries.
