Science City displays domesticated faunal biodiversity through dog show

Science City has organized  17th and 18th All breed Dog show. Around  150 dogs of 40 breads like Labrador, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler ,Boxer, Pomerralnial, Pug, St.Bernard, Bulmastiff Caravan Hound, Rajapalyam Hound, Rampur Hound, Venjari Hound, Santal Hound, Indian MASTIFF, Indian Pariah Dog, Himalayan Sheep Dog, Bully Kutta and Pointer were participated. The event  provided an informative and engaging platform for the general public to learn about the diverse gene pool within domesticated fauna.

Kapurthala, February 4, 2024: Science City has organized  17th and 18th All breed Dog show. Around  150 dogs of 40 breads like Labrador, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler ,Boxer, Pomerralnial, Pug, St.Bernard, Bulmastiff Caravan Hound, Rajapalyam Hound, Rampur Hound, Venjari Hound, Santal Hound, Indian MASTIFF, Indian Pariah Dog, Himalayan Sheep Dog, Bully Kutta and Pointer were participated. The event  provided an informative and engaging platform for the general public to learn about the diverse gene pool within domesticated fauna.

Dr. Manish Kumar, Director General of Science City, conveyed a message emphasizing the strong historical bond between domesticated animals and human beings. Dogs, in particular, play a crucial role in this relationship, contributing to various aspects such as working, sporting, herding, hunting, and companionship. Dog shows like these provide a unique opportunity for owners, breeders, and pet lovers to showcase their pets and engage with breeders.

On this occasion coordinator of the event Dr. Munish Soin Scientist –D Science City said that there is need to bring awareness in the society about faunal biodiversity with a focus on salient features of various breeds of dogs.

Further, all dogs are part of the same species, but their genes can dictate whether they are Chihuahua or a Great Dane. There can be a lot of variation in genes that make up the genetic diversity of dogs in terms of colors, sizes, and shapes. An Exhibition on Domesticated Faunal Biodiversity also be displayed on this occasion to provide information to general masses about this important gene pool.

Rishya Hemchandra  from Bangalore, Harchand Singh  from Patiala and N.S Aujla from Jalandhar were the jury members for the said show.
