Celebration of 73rd Martyr Day of Shaheed Udham Singh by Shaheed Udham Singh Trust, at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, Ferozepur City.

Ferozepur, July 31, 2013: “Since long, India is known for its rich traditions and heritage but its residents have also tolerated the slavery of hundreds of years of cruel British government. Our great nation lovers have also sacrificed their lives to get us freedom from that slavery. We all must contribute in the development of nation and state by following the foot-steps shown by those great nation lovers”.

These views were expressed by Sher Singh Ghubaya, Member Parliament while addressing, on celebration of 73rd Martyr Day of Shaheed Udham Singh by Shaheed Udham Singh Trust, at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, Ferozepur City.

Paying rich tributes to the martyrs, Ghubaya said, “It is the real demand of the time to follow on the path shown to us by the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence because the social evils like female foeticide and drug-addition have become a part of our life and in case they are not suppressed now, then we will have to answer to the coming generation”.

On this occasion, Manjit Singh Narang, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA and local citizens, NGOs also paid rich tributes to the martyrs, by garlanding the statue of Shaheed Udham Singh.

Manjit Singh Narang, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur paying tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh said, “On April 13, 1919, General O.Dyer alongwith his accomplices fired on the innocent Indians at the mammoth gathering at Jallianwala Bagh and number of Indians lost their lives and “bloody saka” had a deep impact on the mind of Shaheed Udham Singh at the tender age and he took revenge of the same by visiting at their home place’.

He further said, “A number of nation lovers like Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, ajguru, Sukhdev, Kartar Singh Sarabha and Chander Shekhar Azar have sacrificed their lives and Shaheed Udham Singh, who was treating Bhagat Singh as his Guru had said that I have see the sacrifice of number of Indians with my own eyes and I have no apology on the death of General Dyer and accepted gallows gladly”.  Shaheed Udham Singh was given the capital punishment on July 31, 1940 in London and unmatched sacrifice example cannot be found anywhere, he added.

Speaking on this occasion, Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA said, “The independence which we are enjoying today has been given to us with number of sacrifices by the great men and thus it is our prime duty to pay them tributes from the core of our hearts and contribute to eradicate the social-evils from the society”.

He further said, “The martyrs are not from any particular community and religion, they below to whole of the community and they have sacrificed their lives for whole of the community”.

On this occasion, Joginder Singh Jindu also announced the grant of Rs.1 lakh to the society. The present in the function were Darshan Singh Sherkhan, Member, SGPC, Bhagwan Singh Nurpur Sethan, Bibi Balwinder Kaur, Kartar Singh, Baljit Sihgh advocate, Amrik Singh, DPRO, Dilbagh Singh Virk, Kikkar Singh, Bhai JapalSingh Mohinder Singh Vifrk, Sukhchain Singh Layalpuri and in good number members of the trust, local citizens also paid their tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh.
