Religious communalism and castiest movements on rise: CPI

Ludhiana, March 3, 2018: After the formation of BJP government led by Narendra Modi at the Centre, the religious communalism and castiest movements have risen, said the leaders of CPI while addressing the party’s District Conference in Ludhiana on Saturday.

The conference was conducted under the chairmanship of Comrade OP Mehta, Dr.Arun Mitra, DP Maur, Gurnam Gill and Kulwant Kaur.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) secretary Hardev Arshi while addressing the conference said the benefits of government policies have been limited to making corporate houses more wealthy.

Arshi added promises are not fulfilled, including the promise of Rs.15 lakhs each to be held in the pocket.

He said to hide its failures the government is making false propaganda through the media.

Arshi said continuous efforts are being made to create communal and warlike environment in the country.

Arshi further said condemned the government for introducing GST regime in the country. He added it had greatly affected small businesses and ordinary shopkeepers.

Nirmal Dhaliwal, a member of the state's provincial secretariat, said that during the voting for the Congress led government in Punjab, the general public voted against the mafia groups.

Dhaliwal also spoke about the problems such as unemployment, crisis of agriculture, water crisis, cesarean disease, small scale industry and others in Punjab.

Dhaliwal said unemployment and discouragement have increased among the youth.

Speakers addressing the conference said the government is giving wind to advance superstition. Constitutional institutions are being overturned. Attempts are being made to weaken the parliamentary system and the constitution has been shattered.

They said construction work in Punjab has come down drastically. The industry is also moving towards closure. Unemployment is getting worse. The government has announced to forgive the farmers' debt and provide cheap electricity to the industry. But now the government has gone back.

On this occasion, the report of the last three years of performance was presented in the session of the elected delegates by the Bloc. Speaking on the report, the speakers said that in order to increase the party base of the party, people of all sections need to struggle against their issues.

A 51-members District Council for the next three years was selected.

The council elected Com D P Maur District Secretary, Dr Arun Mitra and Com Chamkor Singh as Assistant Secretary.
