Chandigarh, November 13, 2015: The Higher Education & Languages Minister Mr.Surjit Singh Rakhra has instructed the officials of the department to take steps in the direction of constituting a regulatory authority to monitor the working of private universities.
Presiding over a high level meeting of the higher education department officials Mr. Rakhra said that a meeting should be convened immediate to prepare the draft of the regulatory authority and discuss each and every aspect minutely. He reiterated that Punjab government is committed to the welfare of the students and their exploitation if any, by the private universities would not be tolerated.
Mr. Rakhra also reviewed the 11 new Government Colleges under construction. He said that financial arrangements have been made in adequate measure regarding these colleges and studies must begin in these colleges from next academic session. He also reviewed the skill development projects being under taken in 13 colleges of the state.
The Minister also instructed the officers of the department to hold meeting of Department Promotion Committee (DPC) next January so as to promote senior professors to the post of Principals. Regarding the recruitment of direct quota Principal, Mr. Rakhra instructed the officers to tie up with Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and do the needful in this regard.
Prominent among others who were present in the meeting Mr. A Venu Parshad, Secretary, Mr. T K Goel, DPI (Colleges), Mr. Gurdarshan Singh Brar, Additional Project Director (RUSA) and Additional Director Mr. Ashok Lohgari.
