Ferozepur, July 8, 2014: The Railway Budget brought mixed reaction for Ferozepur residents. On one hand, the announcement of regular run of Ferozepur-Chandigarh Inter-city Express brought smiles on the border residents faces, few others seemed upset over the fact that no other new train were announced from this historical border town.
Though, the Ferozepur Division is one of the oldest and important section of the Northern Railway, but whenever it comes to the allocation of super fast trains or new projects, the division has always been neglected.
Other long pending demands of this border area were once again neglected in the Rail Budget today including much awaited Ferozepur-Amritsar Rail connectivity, Shatabadi Express to run from Ferozepur instead of Moga, Double tracking of Ferozepur-Ludhiana, Ferozepur-Jalandhar, Ferozepur-Bathinda and Ferozepur-Fazilka were once again ignored.
The Ferozepur Railway Division though got 8 new trains and a new proposed track (From Hoshiarpur –Amb-Andaura).  One Jansadharan Express (Saharasa-Amritsar), One AC Express (Nagpur-Amritsar (Weekly), Four Express Trains including Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express, which will run six days a week, have been announced for Ferozepur division. One new high speed trains have also been announced from Delhi-Chandigarh in the Central Budget.
The most disappointing fact for the residents of Ferozepur will remain that their demand for a rail link between Ferozepur-Amritsar via Mahalm-Khemkaran-Patti, is still ignored. It is pertinent to mention here that only 30 kilometer track needs to be laid for the functioning of the train.
A veteran educationist says that the best thing about this budget it seems that newly formed Modi Government have not made any hollow promises which could not be achieved. It was the time for the government to take some stern actions and this is what it has done.
