Kapurthala, March 22, 2015: In order to celebrate the diversity of nature and motivate the masses to green their campuses, Pushpa Gujral Science City organised a Flower Show on Sunday to provide an opportunity to the visitors of Science City to enjoy floral biodiversity of the region. More than 600 participants participated in a follower Show.
While addressing the participants of the flower show here D.S Mangat, DC, Kapurthala said that this event will inspire the society regarding the importance of growing flowers and conservation of environment. Setting up of flower show is a cooperate venture, combining the skills, Knowledge and enthusiasm of several individuals. Since, gardening is an enjoyable hobby, it promotes a spirit of fun. It motivates a healthy spirit of competition, the same as in sports. Further, he said that the great interest in the practice of gardening throughout the country has made flower shows, familiar event throughout the land. Today’s public is eager for them, both as an outlet for exhibiting plants and attending them as a means of increasing their knowledge
Dr. Neelima Jerath, DG, PGSC while speaking on the occasion said that the flowers are the finest gift to the mankind. Flowers are an expression of nature’s beauty and a source of inspiration and joy. Studies indicate that the State of Punjab harbours about 2000 species of flowering plants (angiosperms) in the wild, besides a large number of species and varieties of floricultural and horticultural importance. This event will provide an opportunity to the visitors to enjoy the spring season in its full grandeur and diversity and to appreciate the variety in nature.  On this occasion, special lecture on water conservation was delivered by Mohammad Ishthaq, Executive Engineer, Public Health.
A special exhibition was also set up at this occasion by the Environment Information Centre, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and Punjab Biodiversity Board to provide information to the public on this important gene pool.
On the Occasion of water Day Competition of School students also organised at Science City.
Result of School Students Competition: Panting Competition: First prize has been achieved by Radhika Sharma from KV School Kapurthala and second prize goes to Gurpreet Singh from Sanskiti KMV School Jalandhar and Shruti Kayshap from Baba Lal Bani School Stood third.
Result of Flower Show: Potted Flower: First prize goes to Usha Rani from Kapurthala, Surjit Singh from Jalandhar got second prize and Pryanka Bhargawa stood third.
Flower Photography Individual Category:  Manjit Kaur ,Harpreet Kaur and Amndeep Kaur all are from Kapurthala got first, second and third prize.
Institutional Category : first prize goes to RCF Kapurthala, second prize has been achieved by NFCI Model town Jalandhar and SPS Convent school Begowal stood third.
Fresh flower: Individual Category: Jsabir from Nourmahal stood first, second prize clinched by Shanya from Jalandhar and third prize received by Ravita from Kapurthala.
Institutional Category: Baba Lal Bani Public School Kapurthala got first prize, DIPS Nourmehal stood second and third prize goes to Hindu Kanya College Kapurthala.
Dray Flower: Individual Category: Ankush  from Jalandhar has achieved first prize, second prize has been received by Manpreet Kaur From Kapurthala and Heena Gandhi from Jalandhar stood third.
Institutional Category: First prize goes to NFCI Jalandhar, second prize goes to SSPS Begowal and third prize has been achieved by KMU School Butta Kapurthala.
Students of different educational institution has also  presented Gidha Bhangra and Gatka.
