Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi take on Indian Oil Mumbai in finals of Surjit Hockey

Jalandhar November 8, 2014: Holder Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi and Last years Runners Up Indian Oil Mumbai will clash swords in the finals of the 31st Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament here on Sunday at 6 PM.

Today in the first semi finals Holders Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi beat  Army XI Delhi by 3-2 in tough fight and in second semi finals Indian Oil Mumbai beat Punjab XI (Pakistan) by 4-2 to reserve berth in the finals at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here.  Punjab & Sind Bank entered in the finals for the 16th time and Indian Oil reserve berth for the 9th time. Both teams facing each other in the finals for the third time. 

In the first semi finals holders Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi controlled the game from the very first minute. In the 6th minute of the play Bankmen earned first penalty corner, their Vikramjit Singh converted it to take lead (1-0). After that Armymen tried their best and made some good moves but strong defence of Bank not gave any chance to them. In the 35th minute of the play Army’s Bachittar Singh sounded the board from cracking shot from top of the striking circle to equalize (1-1). At half time both teams were locked at 1-1.

In the second half’s 47th minute Bank team’s Prabhdeep Singh wrongly stopped by Army’s goalkeeper PT Rao, umpire Anil Kumar awarded penalty stroke in favour of Bank. Vikramjit Singh converted it into goal to consolidate (2-1). In the 58th minute Bank’s Jaskaran Singh netted the ball from the pass of Prabhdeep Singh (3-1). In the 62nd minute of the play Army’s Arumugam converted the penalty corner to reduce the margin (2-3). 

In the second semi finals last Year’s runners up Indian Oil Mumbai displayed controlled hockey from the word go and they won’t allow spirited Pakistani team to speedup the game. In the 8thminute of the play Olympian Deepak Thakur netted the ball from the pass of Inderjit Singh for Indian Oil (1-0). In the 21st minute Paksitani players mounted pressure on Indian Oil goals but Indian Oil’s Experienced Goal keeper Olympian Devish Chohan made good save. In the 32ndminute of the play Olympian Prabhjot Singh scored the goal from the right flank (2-0). In 35thminute Pakistani team earned penalty stroke their Olympian Toseeq converted it to reduce the margin (1-2).

In the second half’s 56th minute Olympian Deepak Thakur struck field goal to consolidate the lead for Indian Oil (3-1). In the very next minute Pakistan mounted pressure and their Q Dogar scored the goal after dodging goal keeper of Indian Oil (2-3). In the 60th minute of the play Indian Oil’s Sunil yadav converted the penalty corner (4-2).
