Ludhiana, July 8, 2014: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) secretary Mohinder Aggarwal has welcomed the railway budget (2014-15). In a statement here today, he added the announcement to start high speed train was a good step. It would boost trade activities, he hoped. He also welcomed the announcement to not to give stoppage to fast trains at small stations after September 30.
However, Aggarwal condemned the government for its decision to close down unmanned railway crossings. He said it would not be in the larger interest of localites, as they would have to suffer badly with this decision.  He said instead of this, the government should man important unmanned railway crossings.
He also welcomed the decision of the government to start the facility of booking of railway tickets at post offices too. He hoped it would not only sideline “mediators” bur also lower down crowd at the railway stations.
He also welcomed the announcement to set up modern stations equipped with latest facilities.  He also welcomed the decision to recruit 4,000 women in RPF.
Aggarwal said the government should also complete the announced, pending and ongoing projects such as freight corridor by the UPA-II. These announcements included laying of 25-km railway track between Makhu-Amritsar. He added completion of freight corridors would be more helpful in boosting trade and industry.
