Ferozepur, July 3, 2013:  The voting in all the 616 Gram Panchayats today was peaceful in Ferozepur District.  In these elections, about 80 per cent villagers sued their right to franchise.

It is pertinent to mention here that in Ferozepur District, there are 821 panchayats, out of which 205 panchayats have elected their representatives unanimously.

Giving this information, Manjit Singh Narang, DEO-cum-DC Ferozepur said, six panchayats, which include Basti Sohan Singh, Basti Sain SinghJora) of Zira Block and non-completion of five year term of  Kamalgarh panchayats, non-completion of work on account of suspension of Vadi Tibbi of Tibbi Kalan panchayat and non completion of distribution of ward due to suspension of gram panchayats of Guruharsahai, Chak Sidhana and Dhani Kashmir Singh’s new panchayat Dhani Kashmir Singh, the elections could not be conducted while there was no voting in Chak Tahli wala and Kala Tibba panchayats due to stay given by Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Narang further said, out of total 699 polling stations, 216 were sensitive and 134 were more-sensitive for which strict security arrangements were made.  At the sensitive and most sensitive polling stations, commandos were also deputed along with the Punjab Police. He further said, there are 3,52,643 voters in the district, out of which 1,83,743 male and 1,68,900 female and about 80 per cent voters used their right to franchise today.

A special cell was establishment in the camp office of deputy commissioner to conduct the election process peacefully where SSP Varinder Pal Singh, DDPO Amrik Singh and other officers were present.   In this cell, the complaints of the voters were also listened and wherever necessary police parties were sent.  DEO-cum-DC thanked the voters, officials on duty,  for making the election process peaceful.  Barring few incidents, the election process ended peacefully in whole of the district, he added.
