Punjab Government issues strict directions to maintain dignity of national flag

Chandigarh, August 13, 2014: The Punjab Government today issued strict directions to all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and SDMs to maintain the dignity of National Flag in the state. A spokesperson of the Punjab Government today said that all the concerned authorities have been asked to follow the Flag Code
The Spokesman further said that authorities in the Punjab has been directed not to use the Plastic Flags which are not biodegradable like the paper flags. This affects the dignity of the flag. Also plastic, not being biodegradable, is harmful to the atmosphere.
He said that to ensure that on important national, cultural and sports events only flags made of papers are used by public in terms of the provisions of the Flag Code of India and such papers Flags are not discarded or thrown on the ground after the event. Such Flags are to be disposed off in private consistent with the dignity of the Flag.
