Ludhiana, April 11, 2016: Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Mr Parminder Singh Dhindsa today said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government is committed for providing world class healthcare facilities to the weaker sections of the society. He said that is why the Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme has been started in the state which would benefit more than 45 lakh people of Punjab. Mr Dhindsa said this while attending a district level function regarding Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme held at Guru Nanak Bhawan, here today. On this occasion, Mr Dhindsa handed over smart cards regarding this scheme to the farmers.
While speaking to the media persons, Mr Parminder Singh Dhindsa stated that when it comes to starting welfare schemes for Punjabis, there is no shortage of funds with the Punjab government and people should not fall prey to the false and fabricated agenda of the opposition parties.
Mr Dhindsa said that from today onwards, smart cards are being handed over to the farmers under Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme. He said that this scheme has been named after social worker Bhagat Puran Singh, who spent his entire life in the service of humanity. He said that with the help of Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme, weaker sections of society can get world class healthcare facilities in top hospitals.
The Finance and Planning Minister said that under Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme, the card holders can avail free treatment up to Rs 50,000 in more than 400 hospitals (both private and government) of the state. He said that in case the head of family dies in an accident or becomes physically challenged, the family would get Rs 5 lakh.
He further informed that under this scheme, 28.90 lakh blue card holders, 11 lakh farmers, 2.33 lakh traders and 2.32 lakh construction labourers would be benefitted. He said that in Ludhiana district alone, 55,093 farmers have registered. He further stated that a cashless insurance scheme has also been started for the government employees as well as the pensioners, due to which 6.50 lakh people are benefitted.
While addressing the gathering, Gill constituency MLA Mr Darshan Singh Shivalik thanked Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal for starting Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat, Punjab Traders Board vice chairman Mr Madan Lal Bagga, ADC (Development) Miss Apneet Riyait, SDM (West) Dr Richa, SDM (East) Mr Paramjit Singh, Market Committee chairman Baba Jagroop Singh, Shivraj Singh Jalla, Manmohan Singh Kalakh and Harminder Singh Thakkarwal, besides several others.
