Punjab Government assures supply of fertilizers for Current Rabi season

Chandigarh, October 23, 2017: Punjab Government has assured the supply of fertilizers in the cooperative societies for the current Rabi season to ensure that the farmers of the state should not face any problem regarding availability of fertilizers.

In a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Mr.D.P.Reddy, Addl.Chief Secretary (Cooperation), the demand and availability of DAP and Urea in the state was reviewed. Mr.A.S.Bains, Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Mr.Gagandeep Singh Brar, Special Secretary Cooperation, and Mr. Arshdeep Singh Thind, Managing Director, Markfed were also present in this meeting.

M.D., Markfed, informed that 77 percent of DAP have already been distributed to Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) of the state as per their demand and the supply of the balance 23 percent is in progress., Similarly, 49 percent of the urea have reached in Societies and Markfed will ensure 100 percent supplies of urea against indents by December 31.

Meanwhile, Registrar Cooperative Societies assured that through daily monitoring the Field Officers of the department were keeping a close vigil on the advance stocking of both DAP and Urea in Societies to ensure that there would be no shortage in any corner of the state.

While expressing satisfaction over the efforts of Markfed for advance stocking in Societies, Mr. D. P. Reddy assured that Markfed and Iffco have been advised to ensure equal distribution of fertilizer so that there would be no shortage in any society. Mr. A. S. Bains further informed that the Secretaries of the Societies have also been allowed to sell fertilizers on cash in addition to credit sale.

Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements made by Markfed for the supply of fertilizers, Mr. Reddy assured the farmers that there is no shortage of DAP in any corner of the state and the Regional Officers of Cooperation Department have been asked to keep a vigil eye on the situation so that the farmers should not face any problem regarding availability of fertilizers.
