Chandigarh, June 1, 2015:  In order to promote Panjab University (PU), Sportspersons, PU Syndicate on Sunday decided to increase the incentives and cash awards for the PU Players for their achievements in All India Inter-University Competitions and other National Games/Championships. 

PU Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Arun Kumar Grover presided over the PU Syndicate meeting at PU Campus here on Sunday. 
For the first position holders in individual events at All India Inter-University Competitions, National Games, National Championships, National Sports Festivals for Women, PU Syndicate enhanced the cash awards from Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000. The new award money for first position holders in team games has been increased to Rs 11,000 from Rs 7,500. The second and third position holders in individual events would get Rs 11,000 and Rs 7,500. The second and third position holders in team events would get Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The new record holders in individual events at inter-college level would now get Rs 7,500, earlier it was Rs 2,100 only.
PU Syndicate also approved 2.5 percent fee hike for the affiliated colleges of PU. The fee hike will be flat 2.5 percent in all courses with a maximum limit of Rs. 1,000 per annum. 
After 2.5 percent hike, the new total fee, charges and funds for BA, B.Com and B.Sc. in affiliated colleges at Punjab would be Rs 10,760, 19,500 and 12,100 respectively. The new total fee, charges and funds for BA, B.Com and B.Sc. in affiliated colleges at
Chandigarh would be Rs 13,250, 19,500 and 14,550 respectively. The new total fee, charges and funds for M.A., M.Com and M.Sc. in PU affiliated colleges at Punjab and Chandigarh would be Rs 15,070, 18,450 and 17,650 respectively. 
PU Syndicate also approved the 10 percent hike in the Rent/License fee, water charges of PU Campus houses at Chandigarh, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana.
PU Syndicate also approved the proposal to start LL.M one year course in two specialization subjects namely (i) Law, Science & Technology (ii) Commercial and Corporate Laws from the new academic session 2015-16 at University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), PU. Rules and fee structure for the LL.M in University were also approved. 

PU Syndicate approved the membership fee for the Cricket Ground of PU. No fee would be charged from the players of the University and Campus teams. Other PU Campus students will be charged Rs 50 per month for the alternative days practice. For PU Fellows, former PU Fellows, serving and retired members of teaching/non-teaching staff members of University and their dependents, the fee would be Rs 200 per month for the alternative days practice. For PU Alumni the fee would be Rs 500 and for the outsiders, Rs 700 per month would be charged for the alternative days practice. For daily practice, the rates would be double of alternative day practice rates. 
The upcoming Cricket Ground would be available for free for the booking of PU students and its affiliated institutes. Educational Institutions/PCA/HCA and its affiliated units can book the ground with Rs 5,000 per day. Others can book the ground with Rs 10,000 per day. 
PU Syndicate also approved the recommendations of Johl Committee Report with regard to sending the direct representations to PU Chancellor. The Committee has recommended certain guidelines for all staff members (teaching & non-teaching). 
PU Syndicate also considered and approved the award of degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to 22 students. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
