Chandigarh, July 14, 2026: As part of the ongoing three-week Internship Programme, the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh students of MA I Semester II, have completed a one-week attachment from Internship Programme at the Police Stations Sector 3, Sector 19, Sector 26, Sector 34, and Sector 36.
The attachment provided practical exposure to police station administration, police procedures, crime investigation, community policing, emergency response systems, preventive policing, and digital policing initiatives.
During the programme, students interacted with Station House Officers (SHOs), Investigation Officers, Beat Officers, and other police personnel, gaining first-hand understanding of the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), Daily Diary Reports (DDRs), online E-FIRs, complaint handling, verification services, and citizen-centric policing through the Samavesh Desk.
The students were also provided detailed knowledge of important police station registers and documentation procedures, including Register No. 2 (Daily Diary Register), Register No. 6 (Petty Crime Register), Register No. 6(3) (Preventive Action/Kalandara Register), Register No. 9 (Beat Book), Registers 9(2) and 9(3) relating to criminal records, Register No. 11 (History Sheet Register), and Register No. 19 maintained in the Malkhana for case property.
Police officials explained the maintenance of these statutory records, their integration with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), and their significance in ensuring accountability, transparency, criminal tracking, evidence management, and effective investigation. Students also observed the procedures relating to the receipt of complaints, FIR registration, E-FIR processing for eligible offences, investigation, preservation of case property, and forwarding of evidence to forensic science laboratories.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration, PU expressed his sincere gratitude to IPS, Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh Police Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Shri Manjeet Sheoran and Inspector Punam Dilawari, Chief Law Instructor, Recruit Training Centre, for their continuous support and guidance in facilitating the internship programme.
He stated that the police station attachment successfully bridged the gap between classroom learning and practical policing, significantly enhancing students’ understanding of police procedures, FIR and E-FIR registration, statutory record management, digital governance, scientific investigation, and citizen-centric police administration. Faculty members of the Centre for Police Administration accompanied and supervised the students throughout the attachment programme.
The internship programme will now enter its third and final week from tomorrow, during which the students will be attached to the Special Wings and Specialised Police Stations of Chandigarh Police.
This phase will provide them with advanced practical exposure to specialised policing units, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of their organisation, functioning, operational procedures, investigation techniques, intelligence gathering, cyber policing, and other specialized aspects of modern police administration.
