Chandigarh, August 26, 2025: Panjab University’s Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM), Department of Education, today organised a Leadership Development Program (LDP) for College Principals at the CALEM Building, South Campus. 

Principals from affiliated colleges, eminent dignitaries, and expert speakers participated in the day long programme to deliberate on academic leadership, governance, and institutional growth. The programme was sponsored by the Dean of Colleges Development Council (DCDC).

Addressing the inaugural function, Punjabi University, Patiala Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jagdeep Singh emphasised on authenticity, empathy, and lifelong learning as hallmarks of leadership. 

In her presidential address, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig shared her leadership journey and stressed on importance of teamwork, collective responsibility, and multidisciplinary collaboration as envisioned in NEP 2020.

In his valedictory address, PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma, emphasised on sustained professional development for institutional leaders. 

Earlier, the event began with a welcome by Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur, Convener and Chairperson, Department of Education, who introduced the distinguished guests and shared the vision of the program. She highlighted Panjab University’s aim of nurturing strong academic leadership and institutional governance.

In academic session, former Director of NCERT, Prof. Krishna Kumar, spoke on “Academic Administration – Issues and Concerns”. He highlighted the need for permanent faculty and adequate academic resources. 

Prof. Neeru Snehi, Professor, NIEPA, delivered a session on “Transformative Leadership Skills”, urging academic leaders to embrace reform, policy-driven innovation, humility, and vision. 

Prof. Gagandeep Singh, Indian School of Business, engaged participants with insights on “Leadership and Organisational Behaviour”, drawing on models for institutional transformation.

Many eminent scholars from Panjab University participated in panel discussion on “Educational Leadership: Challenges and Opportunities”. 

Prof. Sanjeev Sharma (Director, IQAC), Prof. Akshaya Kumar (Department of English and Cultural Studies), and Prof. Ravi Inder Singh (DCDC) reflected on quality assurance, cultural and intellectual dimensions, governance, and policy challenges. Moderated by Prof. Monica Munjial, the discussion underscored adaptability, collaboration, and innovation as essential to educational leadership.
