Anganwari workers stage a massive protest at Ludhiana on Wednesday, in support of their long-pending demands.

Ludhiana, July 10, 2013: Anganwari workers staged a massive protest here today, in support of their long-pending demands.

Protestors blocked the vehicular traffic at Bharat Nagar Chowk for about 60 minutes, causing a great inconvenience to commuters and others.

Among other things, they demanded implement of the orders of Indian Labour Conference. They also demanded to stop privatisation of Anganwari centres.

Protestors also sought an increase in fuel supply and buildings.

They strongly demanded that panchayats should stop doing interfere in their routine working.

Mini-Anganwari centres be converted into full-fledged centres, they further demanded. Besides, they demanded implementation of pension, gratuity, provident fund (PF) schemes and till then Rs 15,000 be given to a worker and Rs 10,000 to a helper.

Among others, the protestors were addressed by the Punjab Anganwari Mulazim Union president Subhash Rani. She warned to intensify the ongoing struggle if the state government failed to accept their demands.
