Programs on “Shaheedi Diwas” held in PU

Chandigarh, March 22, 2024: The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University organized a program on “Shaheedi Diwas” on Friday. In this event, our revolutionary Hero’s were remembered. The Chairperson of the department, Dr.Md Saifur Rahman, explained the role and contribution of our real Hero’s, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, and Shaheed Rajguru in the independence of India. We must remember and follow the steps of our freedom fighters to face the challenges and remove the evils in the society, said Dr. Rahman.  Some students Shivani, Mohit Kumar, Manjit Kaur, and Sonali Sharma highlighted the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, and Shaheed Rajguru and their views about the freedom of the Nation and how they inspired the youths to participate in India Independence Movement. Faculty member Nitin Raj focused on different aspects of the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh from their home to the time he was in the Central Jail by projecting some Pictures, Books, Documents,and Multimedia sources. At the end, he presented a vote of thanks to all the faculty members, scholars, and Students.

The Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev was solemnly observed in a joint effort by the Department of Education and the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology on 22nd March 2023. The highlight of the event was a lecture delivered by the resource persons, Prof. Chaman Lal and Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar, focusing on the theme "Shaheed Bhagat Singh: A thinker, scholar, and patriot."Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Education welcomed the guests. Prof. Chaman Lal delved into Bhagat Singh's intellectual journey, illuminating his commitment to socialism and his remarkable literary contributions. He shared insights into Bhagat Singh's linguistic skills and his avid pursuit of knowledge, such as his endeavor to learn Persian during his final days. Prof. Lal's narrative also encompassed Bhagat Singh's indomitable spirit during his hunger strikes, spanning 110 days, illustrating his unwavering dedication to his principles. Furthermore, Prof. Lal talked about his seminal work, "The Political Writings of Bhagat Singh," symbolizing the scholarly endeavor to perpetuate Bhagat Singh's legacy, which he graciously presented to Prof. Paru Bal Sidhu, Chairperson of the Department of Ancient Indian History. Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar provided profound insights into the historical and socio-cultural backdrop of Bhagat Singh's era, offering a meticulous analysis of the 1920s. She expounded upon the influence of movements such as the Arya Samaj on Bhagat Singh's ideological formation, drawing insightful parallels between Bhagat Singh's principles and those of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Riar's discourse underscored the enduring relevance of Bhagat Singh's ideology in shaping India's freedom struggle.Moreover, the event was enriched by a captivating skit performed by the talented students of M.Ed. and M.A. (Education), adding a creative dimension to the commemoration and engaging the audience in a poignant portrayal of Bhagat Singh's legacy and ideals.

The Department of Life Long Learning and Extension organized an event on the “Martyrdom Day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev Ji and Shaheed Rajguru” at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.  The faculty member, students and staff members  of  Life  Long  Learning  attended  this  event.  Prof. Ajaib Singh and Prof. Sween were Special Invitee for this event. 
Dr. Parmjit Singh Kang, Chairperson, Department of Life Long Learning & Extension started an event with their Slogan “Inqulaab Zindabad- Inqulaab Zindabad- Inqulaab Zindabad,” and elaborated to the participants the personality of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, his family and educational background.  He narrated an important events of his life i.e. Shahidi of his uncle Ajit Singh, Shahidi of Lala Lajpat Rai, killing of John P. Saunders and throwing of bomb on the Central Legislative Assembly etc., his intellectual understanding of history and ideology of Karl Marks.  
Dr. Kang informed the participants that Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev was born on 28th September 1907, 24th August 1908 and 15th May 1907 and scarified their lives at the age of 23 years.  He was hanged in the Lahore Central Jail and was clandestinely cremated at Hussainewala, Ferozepur on 23.3.1931.  But their teaching and sacrifice will continue to influence the life of millions in the centuries to come.
