Professor O.P. Katare Appointed DPIIT IPR Chair Professor at Panjab University
Professor O.P. Katare (Retired), University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), has been appointed as the Chair Professor under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) IPR Chair scheme at Panjab University. The appointment orders were issued by Panjab University, Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig on Friday late evening.

Chandigarh, May 24, 2025: Professor O.P. Katare (Retired), University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), has been appointed as the Chair Professor under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) IPR Chair scheme at Panjab University. The appointment orders were issued by Panjab University, Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig on Friday late evening.
In accordance with the National IPR Policy, the IPR Chairs have been established in select universities and academic institutes by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, under the Scheme for Pedagogy & Research in IPRs for Holistic Education & Academia (SPRIHA).
As DPIIT IPR Chair at PU, Prof. Katare will lead efforts to strengthen intellectual property education, research, and outreach.
Professor O.P. Katare, a distinguished academic and researcher, has served Panjab University in various key roles including Director of the Research Promotion Cell (2015-17), Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2012-13), and Chairperson of UIPS (2005-08). He is also a founding member of the Phospholipid Research Centre, Heidelberg, Germany, and contributes actively to high-level committees at PGIMER Chandigarh. His pioneering work in liposome-based nanotechnology has resulted in 12 granted patents, with many more patent applications and technology transfers underway, along with the successful commercialisation of five novel pharmaceutical products. Prof. Katare’s contributions have been recognised through prestigious awards including the National Technology Tech Transfer President’s Award ( by Late Dr APJ Kalam), OPPI Best Scientist Award, and Best Patent Award and multiple honours and felicitations from Panjab University and other countries institutions.
