Professor Indu Pal Kaur takes over as DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor

On July 27, Dr. Indu Pal Kaur Professor at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor. Established in 2019 under the "Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA)" initiated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, the DPIIT-IPR Chair at Panjab University, Chandigarh serves as a significant platform for intellectual property research and development.

Chandigarh, July 28, 2023: On July 27, Dr. Indu Pal Kaur Professor at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor. Established in 2019 under the "Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA)" initiated by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, the DPIIT-IPR Chair at Panjab University, Chandigarh serves as a significant platform for intellectual property research and development.

Prof. Indu Pal Kaur possesses an illustrious teaching and research career spanning over 34 years. Her remarkable contributions to the field of pharmacy and pharmacology have garnered global recognition, as she is listed among the top 2% most cited world scientists in these domains, according to a study conducted by Stanford University, USA, every year since 2019.

A prolific inventor, Prof. Kaur holds the distinction of 13 Indian and 1 USA patents granted, with an additional 17 patents filed under her name. Her remarkable accomplishments have earned her the prestigious "National Intellectual Property Award" for years 2021 and 2022, presented by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM), a division of DPIIT, in recognition of her exceptional contributions to patents filing, grant, and commercialization.

Her trailblazing achievements continue to be acknowledged on a global scale, evident by her recognition as the winner of the "Grand Innovation Challenge" during the 1st Global Innovation Summit in 2021, organized by the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance. Furthermore, her remarkable talents as an inventor led to her selection to receive the esteemed "WIPO Medal for Inventors" presented by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, conferred upon her recently in 2023.

The DPIIT-IPR Chair has had the privilege of being guided by Prof. Rupinder Tewari from the Department of Microbial Biotechnology, who was the founder of the DPIIT-IPR Chair at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
