Dharamshala, October 31, 2017: Just 9 days away from the assembly polls in Himachal, BJP’s chief Amit Shah named Prof P K Dhumal as the party's chief ministerial face in Himachal Pradesh today in a rally in Sirmour district.
Reacting on the delay on the declaration of Dhumal's name the BJP Himachal Chief Sat Pall Satti said, “It is not a delayed announcement, it is the high command, which decides about the actual timings for such announcements. In 1998 elections when Dhumal become the CM of Hinachal for the first time, the then party chief LK Advani declared the name of CM candidate as Prof PK Dhumal just 4 days prior to voting.” Satti said that Dhumal is the other name of development, and after this announcement the workers shall work with double energy for BJPs win.
Earlier, It was in the media that Union minister JP Nadda may be tipped for this post this time post, but at last ex-CM won this fight.
Dhumal's son and BJP MP from Hamirpur Anurag Thakur said, "Dhumal lead party twice as CM of HP and become famous as Sadko wale CM(CM of roads). He also lead the party as successful leader of opposition in HP assembly in past 5 years. So, the public of HP is happy on this announcement.”
Dhumal said, “I respect the party high command’s decision. The party acted in favour of the party workers in Himachal.”
Dhumal is contesting the assembly elections this time from Sujanpur instead of Hamirpur, whereas his counterpart Congress leader Virbhadra Singh is also contesting from Arki in Solan district instead of Shimla Rural.
Prem Kumar Dhumal was the 12th chief minister of Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. He is an Indian politician who has twice been Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from March 1998 to March 2003 and again from 1st January 2008 to 25th December 2012. Presently, he holds the designation of Leader of Opposition in state assembly.
Prem Kumar Dhumal was born on 10 April 1944 in Samirpur village, Hamirpur district. His father was Mahant Ram. Dhumal holds MA and LL.B. degrees following his education at Doaba College in Jalandhar and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He became a lecturer at a private college in Punjab.
Dhumal married Sheela, with whom he has two sons, Arun Thakur and Anurag Thakur. The latter is also a politician and has been a member of the 14th and 15th Lok Sabhas.
